Red Square
©2007 by Michelle Chapais, Cambridge 67x80
"Red Square" is a scrap quilt based on a similar one I
made for a friend who married for the first time in her 60's. She wanted
it red, so I was inspired to dig out all my rarely-used red fabrics, some
of which date back to my childhood in the 60's. My intention was to
include as many textures as possible, so that one would be drawn to touch
it. The quilting is a clamshell pattern, which makes a nice counterpoint
to the squares. The title refers to both the pattern and the fact that in
Russian, "red" means "beautiful". Machine Quilted by Susan Vassallo of
Agawam.
